Lakes, Fish AND dragonflies

In support of the lake restoration projects of our project partner DBCAM, BINCO set out on an expedition to the lakes of the Betsiboka river basin, in the Northwest of Madagascar. We assessed water quality, fish species and dragonfly diversity.

: Fishing with cast net is one of the many fishing techniques in the freshwater lakes.

: Fish traps (locally called treko) can be part of the solution to reduce overfishing in the lakes. As small fish escape through the mesh, only fish that already reproduced are captured.

: A disaster for the freshwater fish fauna: mosquito nets used to catch the tinniest of fish is a common sight in the lakes of the Betsiboka basin.
